A Photo Exhibition: concerns and issues BTS

I encourage photos be printed. Printing completes photography. Even better,  show case and share them with our fellow photographers. Exhibition is a valuable experience we enthusiasts should strive for.

But let's be practical for a moment, where on earth are we supposed to store the printed images? And is it expensive to have an exhibition ?

First of, I don't have the foggiest on what to do with the printed materials. I would just chuck them away once the show is over.  Mind you, I do feel bad about it, but this is the package deal of living in HK, we simply can't afford the luxury of space.

As for the expenses, the gist of an exhibition is printing cost, cost of venue, and marketing expense. You do, of course, have the options of choosing how much you would want to spend on those 3 categories. The fancier it gets, the more you would need to dish out.

We have organised three exhibitions in the past 4 years. We did so in hopes that more photographers would get into displaying their work to the general public. Sort of like an introduction,  to let them know you don't need to be famous to have an exhibition, even to inspire and trigger new ideas once the conformities have been removed.

Another word, keeping the cost down as low as possible was our top priority. We weren't aiming for a galleria grade printing, or pour a ton load in marketing. It was the experience that matters.

The past experiences had given us a new thought, "an exhibition requires an act of commercialism", that we need to sell the prints, or at the very least, have the guts to sell your work to the audience. This is going to be extremely challenging.

to be continued.
